Timex SinclairWhen I was eight years old my father got me my first computer:A Timex Sinclair. This computer had 2K of memory, used a television as a monitor and used a cassette recorder to store programs. Later I got 16K of memory(At a cost of $39, way down from $99 soon before). This memory unit didn't work very well though and tended to crash the computer.
Macintosh 128When I was 10, I got my second computer:the Macintosh 128. I couldn't believe that this could have soo much memory. 128K seemed like more memory than anyone could possibly use. It was also hard to believe that file names could be longer than 2 characters.
Macintosh PlusThe world soon outgrew the Mac 128 so it was upgraded to a 512K and then a Mac Plus. The Plus with its 800K floppy drive and a megabyte of memory seemed like a dream. On this machine I could actually have more than 1 application open at once. It was on this machine I learned C, Pascal, 68000 assembly etc...
PCDrawn to the cheap price, high power, and most of all large availability of good video games, I switched over to the PC world. I initially started out with a 486/66, but that was too slow. I got a 486/120 and then a Pentium 100, but they were too slow. I'm afraid all computers will be too slow the moment I get them, which is about the same time my hard drives run out of space.
